Fr Ian writes,
I wish you all a wonderful and relaxing Summer. I hope that whatever these summer months bring for you, whether holidays abroad or in this country; whether time on your own or with family and friends you all have a fantastic time.
As the sun comes out over Tangmere and the surrounding countryside we are reminded of what a great privilege it is to live in such a beautiful part of God’s creation.
Often as the daily round of life pass us by it is easy to forget how blessed we all are. And yet as the news can constantly reminds us, there are many parts of the world where violence and oppression hold sway. There are many places where people struggle for food or clean drinking water.
There has been much over the start of this year about the recession and the credit crunch, and its impact is plain to see on the high street in Chichester. We have also heard much about the behaviour of our politicians, and the failure of many of them to live up to our expectations of them. Indeed it is possible to feel that the world is going crazy, yet we must remind ourselves that we enjoy a higher standard of living than almost everyone else in the world. And certainly a standard of living that our grandparents could not have dreamed of. There is definitely much in our world that could be improved, but we are privileged to live the lives we live here and now, and we should give thanks for it.
Bible Study Group
Friday 3rd July at 2.30pm at 9 Nettleton Avenue
A new group will be meeting once a month to study the bible in an informal way. The meetings will be held in people’s homes on the first Friday of the month (not in August).
You don’t need to know how many brothers Joseph had or to know your Jehoshaphat from Jeremiah this group is for anyone, it will be led by different leaders who will through study and discussion seek to make the teaching of the bible relevant.
Tea will be served at about 3.45pm

TANGMERE OPEN GARDENS - Sunday 12th July
Following the success of the afternoon in May when seven gardens in Tangmere were open, another similar event will take place on Sunday 12th July.
Entry to the gardens will be free.
Red Balloons will be outside each open garden, leaflets giving details of the location of open gardens will be available on the day from
26 Edwards Avenue, 9 Nettleton Avenue, and at Acre End,
Tangmere Road. Members of the Tangmere church will be selling plants at 26 Edwards Avenue and teas and a second hand book stall will be at
9 Nettleton Avenue all in aid of the upkeep of the churchyard.
This is not a competition, but a chance to meet neighbours and see how other residents use their gardens. If you would like to open your garden this July or sometime in the future contact Jayne Sansby 780316
First Communions
We had a wonderful Mass for the people who received their first communion on the feast of Corpus Christi. It was fantastic to see these young people make a commitment in their lives, and it was wonderful to welcome so many members of their extended families. Well done to Natasha, Isobel, William, Theo, Michael and Jack. We are all very proud of you!
If you are interested in exploring what Christianity is about and will be aged eight or over we will be running another class next January.
What a better return on your money?
Is Deflation getting to your investments? St. Andrews Church has the answer. The sixty club! For a monthly price of £5 you are entered into our draw to win a first prize of £120, a second prize of £60, or a third prize of £30. It is called the sixty club because there can only be a maximum number of Sixty members. Which gives you odds of 1 in 20 of winning. However at the time of writing there are only 25 members. That means your chances are increased to just over 1 in 8 chance of winning. The lottery cannot get close to those odds and all the proceeds go to maintaining the Church, so everyone wins. Please call Helen the Treasurer for an chance to join on 01243 775697 and remember the sooner you join the better the odds of winning.
